the University of Plymouth provides a three-year full PhD studentship in
the area of computer science, which will start on* 1 October 2023. *We are
a collaborative and interdisciplinary community of over 120 world-leading
academic and research staff focused upon the creation of knowledge and
innovative solutions. Aligned to the fourth industrial revolution, the
school is home to an extensive portfolio of research themes from offshore
renewable energy, coastal engineering and robotics to cybersecurity,
artificial intelligence, and data science. The school brings together
internationally recognised researchers from engineering, computing and
mathematics in the University with close links with local industries
through collaborative research and development with other leading
universities in the UK, Europe and overseas.
*Project**: *The aim of this project is to design quality-of-service
guaranteed resource orchestration for mobile edge computing to support
mission-critical Internet-of-Things services. The candidate will be
supervised by Dr. Wang Miao (wang.miao@plymouth.ac.uk) and Dr David Walker (
david.walker@plymouth.ac.uk).
*Eligibility:* Applicants should have a first or upper second-class honours
degree in an appropriate subject and preferably a relevant master's
qualification.
The studentship is supported for 3 years and includes full Home tuition
fees plus a stipend of £17,668 per annum (2022/23 rate). The studentship
will only fully fund those applicants who are eligible for home fees with
relevant qualifications. Applicants normally required to cover
international fees will have to cover the difference between the Home and
the International tuition fee rates (approximately £12,670 per annum),
which will be potentially waived based on the interview results.
