[DMANET] Lectureship in Discrete Mathematics at Lancaster University

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Lancaster University invites applications for a lectureship in Discrete Mathematics. Details are below.

Lecturer in Pure Mathematics (Discrete Mathematics)
Mathematics & Statistics
Salary: £36,382 to £40,927
Closing Date: Sunday 12 June 2022
Interview Date: Thursday 30 June 2022

Applications are sought from candidates working in discrete mathematics, broadly understood, with a proven track record of publishing research of international quality. You should demonstrate a clear potential for attracting research funding and for being a capable and enthusiastic contributor to the Department's undergraduate programmes.

Lancaster is one of the UK's top departments in Mathematics and Statistics, ranked 5th overall in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework and 3rd for the impact of its research. The Department currently has 49 members of academic staff, 26 research associates and over 70 research students. Lancaster University was the 2020 Times and Sunday Times International University of the Year, and has been named NEON Higher Education Institution of the Year 2021 for delivering an innovative and progressive programme of activities for Widening Participation students from primary school through to the workplace.

This is an exciting time to join our thriving Pure Mathematics section, which includes 7 professors, 11 readers or senior lecturers and 6 lecturers. Its research is organised around six themes: Algebra & Geometry, Analysis, Combinatorics, Geometric Rigidity, Mathematical Physics and Probability. We wish to appoint a lecturer whose research interests complement those of our Combinatorics and Geometric Rigidity themes.

We welcome applications from all diversity groups. The Department provides an environment which aims to meet the individual needs of each member of staff. All new lecturers are provided with mentoring and support, with a carefully selected group lead taking responsibility for personal development, and have a reduced teaching and administrative load for the first three years. We are committed to family-friendly and flexible working policies, and seek to promote a healthy work-life balance. The University is a charter member of Athena Swan and has held a Bronze award since 2008, in recognition of good employment practice to address gender equality in higher education and research. The Department achieved its own Athena Swan Bronze award in 2017 and is a registered supporter of the London Mathematical Society's Good Practice Scheme. We are thus committed to the Athena Swan Charter, which recognises and celebrates good employment practice undertaken to address gender equality in higher education and research. We will consider applications to work on a part-time, flexible and job-share basis wherever possible and habitually agree to flexible modes of working.

Informal enquiries can be made to the Head of Department, Professor Alexander Belton (a.belton@lancaster.ac.uk) and the Research Theme Leads for Combinatorics and Geometric Rigidity, Dr Tony Nixon (a.nixon@lancaster.ac.uk) and Dr Bernd Schulze (b.schulze@lancaster.ac.uk).

Please use the covering letter to explain your suitability for this role and how you will contribute to the Department. General information about the Department can be found at http://www.lancaster.ac.uk/maths/ .
