Postdoc position in Combinatorial Optimization and Discrete Mathematics

at RWTH Aachen, Germany


A postdoc/senior researcher position is available in the group of

Britta Peis at RWTH Aachen University (www.oms.rwth-aachen.de)
The group's research focus is on combinatorial optimization, algorithmic game theory,

and discrete mathematics, in particular network optimization, submodular functions, flows, scheduling, approximation algorithms, linear and integer programming.

The ideal candidate holds (or is expected to hold soon) an excellent PhD degree in mathematics,
theoretical computer science, or a related area, and should have a strong
publication record in the areas combinatorial optimization, discrete mathematics, or algorithm
theory. A background in some of the other above-mentioned topics, as well as interest in problems motivated by applications in politics, logistic, and markets, is desirable.

In addition, the successful candidate is highly self-motivated, passionate about her/his work, and has a good ability to work both independently as well as in a team. Good communication skills
and solid English skills, both oral and in writing, are expected.
Teaching experience is an advantage.

The position is a full-time position for 3 years, with the possibility
of extension, paid according to the Federal German Payment scale TV-L
13. The actual salary depends on academic experience, family situation,
tax classification, etc.

The successful applicant is expected to conduct independent research on
topics relevant to the above-mentioned areas, to cooperate with the
group as well as external collaborators and to attract and supervise
graduate students. The position comes with teaching duties.
