*TL;DR: Help advance AI alignment research at MATS Summer 2025 (June 16-Aug
22)! Applications <https://www.matsprogram.org/apply> close THIS FRIDAY Apr

MATS is a twice-yearly, 10-week AI alignment
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AI_alignment>, security, and governance research
fellowship program <https://www.matsprogram.org/program> operating in
Berkeley, California and London, UK, with an optional 6-12 month extension
program for select scholars. Scholars are supported with a shared office
space, seminar program, support staff, accommodation, travel reimbursement,
and computing resources. Our last two programs supported ~80-90 scholars
and a diversity of research mentors <https://www.matsprogram.org/mentors>.
Our alumni <https://www.matsprogram.org/alumni> have been hired by top AI
research teams (e.g., Anthropic <https://www.anthropic.com/>, Google
DeepMind <https://deepmind.google/>, OpenAI <https://openai.com/>, UK AISI
<https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/ai-safety-institute>, METR
<https://metr.org/>), founded research groups (e.g., Apollo Research
<https://www.apolloresearch.ai/>, Timaeus <https://timaeus.co/>, Atla
<https://www.atla-ai.com/>, CAIP <https://www.aipolicy.us/>, Leap Labs
<https://www.leap-labs.com/>), and maintain a dedicated support network for
new researchers.

The Summer 2025 Research Phase will run from *Jun 16-Aug 22, 2025*.
Scholars typically spend two hours per week meeting with their mentors,
with frequent asynchronous communication on Slack. Our Research Management
team complements mentors by offering dedicated 1-1 check-ins, research
coaching, debugging, and general executive help to unblock research
progress and accelerate researcher development
