[DMANET] PhD position at TU Berlin / MATHEON

Open PhD position, reference code FO-187

The Combinatorial Optimization and Graph Algorithms Group at TU Berlin
(http://www.math.tu-berlin.de/coga/) invites applications for a research
position in the project "Optical Access Networks" within the
DFG-Research center MATHEON "Mathematics for key technologies"
(http://www.matheon.de/), starting as soon as possible.

We are looking for a PhD student who wishes to specialize in
computational discrete optimization, in particular in combinatorial
optimization, integer programming, and their applications. The
successful candidate will participate in the development and the
implementation of mathematical models and algorithms to solve
large-scale optimization problems arising in the planning of optical
telecommunication networks. Working towards theoretical as well as
practical results is both intended. He or she will collaborate with 10+
researchers in our group, interested in areas such as computational
integer programming, network flows, scheduling, online and robust
optimization, graph theory, and their application to and implementation
in practice.

Candidates must have a recent Diploma or Maser degree in mathematics or
computer science and good knowledge in discrete optimization. The
possibility to work towards a doctoral degree will be given. There is
no teaching obligation.

Payment will be at the Berlin BAT IIa level. The position is initially
limited until May 31, 2010, the prolongation of the contract is intended.

Please send your application with the job reference number (FO-187) and
appropriate documentation to the President of TU Berlin, Faculty II,
Inst. of Mathematics, DFG-Research Center MATHEON, Sekr. MA 3-1, Str.
des 17. Juni 136, 10623 Berlin, Germany or via email to Andreas Bley
(see below).

The closing date for applications is November 27, 2009. More information
