Kaiserslautern (TUK) invites applications for the positions ofProfessorship
(W2) in Theoretical Computer Science with Focus on Algorithms (m/f/d)
We are seeking an internationally visible candidate with research focus on
algorithms and complexity. Areas of interests include, but are not limited
to: algorithms and data structures, computational complexity, fine-grained
complexity, randomness in computing, algorithmic graph theory,
combinatorial algorithms, approximation algorithms, cryptography,
computational learning theory, diff erential privacy, algorithmic game
theory, parallel and distributed algorithms, quantum computing, algorithmic
coding theory, computational geometry, computational applications of logic,
optimization, algebraic algorithms, proof complexity, persistent data
structures, and energy-efficient algorithms.
We are looking for an expert with outstanding academic qualifications, as
evidenced by a proven record of high-quality publications in renowned
venues in algorithms and complexity (e.g., SODA, STOC, FOCS, STACS, COLT,
ICALP, etc.). We search for candidates with experience in third-party
funding and the implementation of projects, as well as excellent teaching
skills. We are interested in candidates that can complement our research
strengths and are interested in and capable of collaborations with existing
research groups at the university (disciplinary or interdisciplinary),
which include Algorithm Accountability Lab, Automated Reasoning Group,
Embedded System Group, Machine Learning Group, and the research groups in
theoretical computer science at the Max-Planck Institute for Software
Systems, to name a few. Successful candidates will develop an independent
and creative research program, teach an algorithm and data structure course
at bachelor level (in German), participate in teaching at master level (in
English), and supervise PhD students.
Kaiserslautern is one of the largest computer science locations in Germany.
The department combines foundations in education with excellence in
applications, and regularly ranks among the top universities in German
rankings. More information about the Department of Computer Science can be
found at http://www.informatik.uni-kl.de/en/. Research groups of the
department of computer science have the opportunity to cooperate with its
affiliated research institutes, i.e., the German Research Center for
Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), the Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental
Software Engineering (IESE), the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial
Mathematics (ITWM), and the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems
(MPI-SWS). This variety of research institutes in Computer Science is
unique throughout Germany.
Note that, in addition to public service employment regulations, the
conditions of employment regulated in §49 of the Universities Act of the
state Rhineland-Palatinate apply. The text can be found on the homepage of
the University of Kaiserslautern (in German only:

Rhineland-Palatinate and the University of Kaiserslautern support a
mentoring concept in which teachers are expected to be present on campus as
much as possible. Candidates must be willing to cooperate with the
self-administration at the university. The University of Kaiserslautern
strongly encourages qualified female academics to apply. Kaiserslautern is
a family friendly university which offers a high level of support to
applicants with children. Disabled applicants will be given preference when
