[DMANET] PhD Scholarships @ UCD in Sports Analytics & AI

Colleagues,

As part of a Lero funded project we are seeking applicants for a PhD
scholarship in AI for Athlete Activity Recognition and Analysis, based at
University College Dublin's Natural Computing Research & Applications Group
(http://ncra.ucd.ie).

We are offering a unique PhD opportunity for a highly motivated and
enthusiastic candidate to join our team and work on the development of
algorithms to automate the extraction of individual activities from
wearable sensor data. Specifically you will focus on activities recorded
with a single device type, where your main task will be to develop and
implement advanced signal processing, sensor fusion and machine learning
techniques to extract specific activities (walking, jogging, running) from
the wearable sensor data of an athlete.

This full-time PhD studentship comprises an annual stipend of €18,500 for 4
years, postgraduate fees and a contribution towards direct research costs.

You will work closely with our team, which includes Prof Fergal McCaffery
(DkIT, Lero Co-PI), Prof Michael O'Neill (UCD, Lero Co-PI) and our
collaborator Dr Mark Connor (PhD AI in Sports Analytics, BSc Sports
Science) who is based in University College Dublin.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in computer science,
artificial intelligence, signal processing, machine learning or related
fields, and a keen interest in sports science, biomechanics, exercise
physiology or wearable technology. You will be working with
state-of-the-art technology and techniques, and will have the opportunity
to develop skills that are highly sought after by industry and academia.

I*f you are interested in being part of this exciting project, please send
your CV and a cover letter explaining your motivation for this PhD
opportunity to mark.connor@ucd.ie <mark.connor@ucd.ie> *

Applications are open until 22 May 2023, however applications received
after this date will be evaluated on a rolling basis until filled.

Many thanks,
Mike.
