[DMANET] Post Doc position : New tools for Integrated warehouse and customer delivery management

Post Doc or Engineer position: New tools for Integrated warehouse and customer delivery management

The mission will take place in the INOCS team (INRIA Lille)

https://team.inria.fr/inocs/

It will be in collaboration with a company based in Paris.

Duration : 1 year or 2 years
Starting date : October 2022

Context

Currently, urban transport operators, platforms (MyTroopers, Trusk, Stuart,...) and specific services (bikes, on foot) optimize each for themselves, without being able, nor wishing to make any arbitration on behalf of the customer. For example, the right solution for a tour (price, carbon impact, delays) may be the combination of a vehicle and a group of delivery people on foot. No carrier is able to offer this to the customer on an objective basis.

A new integrated approach seems imperative to gain efficiency, in order to absorb the extra cost of green transport solutions and bring them to the level of other solutions. If this is the case, the consumer will opt for these approaches en masse, whereas today, despite all the good intentions, the price difference is prohibitive.

Mission

The goal of this project is to develop a model(s) and efficient algorithms to solve the integrated problem of managing the warehouse(s) and allocating transport requests to the couriers (depending on the type of vehicle they have available). More precisely, if several warehouses are available, it will be necessary to define where the incoming products are routed. In each warehouse, it will be necessary to manage the preparation of the parcels and the allocation to the couriers according to the availability and the vehicles at their disposal.

The optimization parameters taken into account will be monetary costs, ecological costs related to potential C02 emissions, deadlines (management of priority deliveries) and the best possible user experience (reduced delivery time slots selectable by the end customer). The constraints to be taken into account will be those related to the types of products transported (weight / volume / need to preserve the cold chain...), the contractual delivery time clauses, as well as some specific constraints that will be specified later.

The uncertainty of the demand will be taken into account via stochastic or robust models.
