I am looking to hire a PhD student to join my team at the University of Helsinki. I am leading the Graph Algorithms team (https://www.helsinki.fi/en/researchgroups/algorithmic-bioinformatics/teams/graph-algorithms), of the wider Algorithmic Bioinformatics research group (https://www.helsinki.fi/en/researchgroups/algorithmic-bioinformatics). This position is funded by an ERC Consolidator Grant on "Scalable Graph Algorithms for Bioinformatics using Structure, Parameterization and Dynamic Updates" (https://doi.org/10.3030/101169716).
Ideally, the candidate has a strong algorithmic and programming background, and strong skills to develop, implement, and test practical graph algorithms that exploit features of the graphs arising from sequencing data. Even though our data comes from bioinformatics, we tackle quite fundamental graph problems. University of Helsinki hosts an active and wonderful Algorithmic Bioinformatics community, with interests ranging from theoretical computer science, to algorithm engineering and practical bioinformatics methods, and from graph algorithms to string algorithms.
