[DMANET] Opening Assistant Professorship of Computer Science "Embedded Artificial Intelligence

Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU), Germany, invites applications for an

Assistant Professor of Computer Science
*Embedded Artificial Intelligence* (salary group W1)

at the Department of Computer Science. The position is to be filled by
the earliest possible starting date for an initial period of three
years. Upon successful evaluation, the appointment will be extended for
another three years.

We seek to appoint a top early career scientist with an internationally
visible profile in research and teaching. The candidate should develop
outstanding expertise in the field of machine learning (ML) for design
automation of electronic systems (ECAD) and/or ECAD for ML, and should
ideally have experience in research and teaching in one or several of
the following areas:

Machine learning for resource management in MPSoCs
(Explainable) artificial intelligence in electronic design automation
Compilation-based mapping of ML to heterogeneous targets
Design technology co-optimization (DTCO)
Tiny ML, ML for IoT, ML at the edge
Hardware-aware learning
Approximate computing
Cyber-physical human-computer interaction: Models and verification
Robustness, safety and security of ML
LLM-ECAD: Large language model for ECAD.

The professor will be responsible for setting up and leading an
independent research group in the Department of Computer Science, and
will be expected to contribute to the degree programs in computer science.

Successful candidates should demonstrate initial academic achievements
and the capacity for independent research at the highest international
standards. They should have substantial research experience abroad
and/or experience in managing research projects and in raising
third-party funding. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral
degree as well as a passion for education and relevant teaching
experience are also prerequisites. Candidates who are able and willing
to teach in both English and German are preferred.

No more than four years should have passed between the conferral of the
doctoral degree and deadline of the call for applications; this period
is extended to a maximum of seven years in the field of medicine or
clinical psychology and may also be extended due to periods of
supporting a family or caring for a family member. The date of the
doctoral certificate is decisive.

The successful candidate should become actively involved in
administering academic affairs and in developing strategic initiatives.
