2 PhD positions in Scheduling Theory
Research Assistant (100% TV-L 13)

Two PhD positions are available in the DFG-funded Junior Research Group
"Models, algorithms and complexity for scheduling under uncertainty" led
by Nicole Megow at Technische Universität Berlin. The successful
candidates will perform research in the areas of (i) stochastic
scheduling and (ii) periodic real-time scheduling.

Both positions are fulltime positions for 3 years with a possible
extension. There are no teaching obligations. The positions are
available immediately.

The junior research group is associated with the "Combinatorial
Optimization and Graph Algorithms Group" at TU Berlin
(http://www.math.tu-berlin.de/coga/) with 20+ researchers interested in
combinatorial optimization, integer programming, network flows,
scheduling, online and robust optimization, graph theory, and their
application in practice. The successful candidate is encouraged to apply
to be a member of the BERLIN MATHEMATICAL SCHOOL
(http://www.math-berlin.de), the joint international graduate program of
the three major Berlin universities, which is promoted by the German
Excellence Initiative and offers training and support to PhD students in
many ways.

Candidates must hold a diploma/master's degree in mathematics, computer
science or a related area, and must have a very good knowledge in
combinatorial optimization and algorithm theory. A background in
scheduling, approximation algorithms, or probability theory is
desirable. Good communication skills are necessary.
