The Faculty of Computer Science at the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg
invites applications for a
Professorship (W2) in Theoretical Computer Science
as of April 1st, 2013. The holder of the position represents the field of
Theoretical Computer Science in research and lecture and holds an appropriate
scientific qualification. Outstanding research achievements and project
experience are required. The holder of the position possesses scientific
knowledge in Theoretical Computer Science and in one or more of the following
research areas:
Computational Learning Theory,
Logics and Knowledge Representation,
Cryptography,
Parallel and Distributed Computation,
Computational Neuroscience,
Program Verification,
Biocomputing,
Formal Semantics,
Computational Economics.
The holder of the position is required to fundamentally contribute to the focus
areas Images, Knowledge and Interaction of the Faculty and the comprehensive
focus areas of the University. This includes the willingness to cooperate with
the engineering and humanistic faculties of the University as well as various
non-academic research institutions in Magdeburg.
The quality of teaching and supervision of students are of prime importance to
the Faculty of Computer Science. The holder of the position is expected to
organize new teaching and learning concepts and contribute to the further
development of the courses of study at the Faculty. Besides specialized courses
aiming to raise the teaching profile, he/she is supposed to organize the basic
Theoretical Computer Science lectures. An active supervision of students, e.g.
within the frame of the mentoring program of the Faculty, is desirable.
Formal prerequisites for the appointment are the habilitation or equivalent
qualifications according to § 35 (3) HSG-LSA.
The Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg seeks to increase the proportion of
