Final Call for Participation:
28th ACM Symposium on Computational Geometry Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
16-20 June 2012
socg2012.web.unc.edu
You are invited to participate in the 28th Annual ACM Symposium on Computational Geometry (SoCG), 16-20 June 2012, on the beautiful campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
This year we are pleased to announce that an expanded set of events will be co-located with SoCG, which will span 4 full days (Sun-Wed), with an initial welcome reception on Saturday evening, June 16.
Mornings will be devoted to SoCG paper presentations; afternoons will be devoted to activities that collectively go under the title Computational Geometry: Applications, Practice, and Theory (CG:APT).
Together, these activities constitute "CG Week 2012″. Summary
schedule: http://socg2012.web.unc.edu/files/2012/02/Schedule-SoCG-CGAPT-16-20June12.pdf
Highlights of CG Week include:
+3 plenary lectures:
-Jane Richardson (Duke U) Protein Molecules in 3D,
-Chris Bishop (SUNY SB) Mappings and Meshes,
-Rien van de Weygaert (Kapteyn Astronomical Institute) Tessellation Analysis of the Cosmic Web
+Algorithms in the Field: Geometric Algorithms
Highlights of SoCG include
+44 presentations, with authors from 18 countries; details in summary schedule.
+Prizes to be awarded to two best papers and best student presentation at ACM SoCG
+Video review of geometric algorithms
Highlights of CG:APT include:
+Young Researchers Forum with 30 presentations
+Seven different workshops, from Discrete Differential Geometry to demos of Publically Available Geometric and Topological Software; click on links in summary schedule for details.
The campus is 25 min from the Raleigh Durham Airport (RDU), and accommodations are available in dorms or hotels. Registration fees are
modest, and especially low for students. Events will be held in and
around the conjoined Brooks Building/Sitterson Hall, within easy walking distance of restaurants and entertainment. Because the schedule is packed, we are providing lunches (except for Tuesday, where we provide the dinner), so come to be fed in body and mind.
Program co-chairs: Tamal Dey (OSU) and Sue Whitesides (UVic) Local arrangements: !ack Snoeyink (UNC Chapel Hill)
