[DMANET] Assistant Professor in Computer Science at GUtech

The German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech) was established in
collaboration with RWTH Aachen University in 2007 in Muscat, the capital of
the Sultanate of Oman. The Vision of the German University of Technology in
Oman is to become a leading university of technology in the wider region by
building on the three pillars of education, research and innovation.
Through its affiliation with RWTH Aachen University, the German University
of Technology in Oman provides students with the education required to
become highly qualified and socially responsible graduates, guided by
German excellence and with a firm grounding in Oman's culture and heritage.
GUtech's programmes of study are accredited by the German agency ACQUIN and
the University has recently undergone a successful evaluation by the German
Academic Exchange Service DAAD. GUtech faculty also engage in local
research projects, often in cooperation with RWTH Aachen University and
other universities abroad.
The Computer Science Department at GUtech is committed to excellence in
teaching and research. It is striving to convey broad theoretical and
practical knowledge to its students, while focusing on cutting-edge
technologies and latest standards. In addition to covering areas related to
programming, databases, Web-based technologies, networking, computer
systems, mobile applications, and software engineering, the Computer
Science curriculum of the department includes an important business
component.

The Computer Science Department is going to expand in the near future. A
new Master's degree in Computer Science is expected to start in September
2019. Skilful, motivated, and devoted faculty members will, therefore, be
needed accordingly.

The Computer Science Department is now seeking applications for the
position of an Assistant Professor in Computer Science.


1. Requirements and Competencies

Candidates must have a PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or
related fields. They should have demonstrated excellence in teaching
undergraduate/graduate courses and able to prove minimum of 3 years
teaching experience at higher education level in Computer Science (or
related fields). Candidates from all research/teaching areas are welcome,
but preference will be given to candidates with expertise in one of the
following: Mobile application development; Web design and development; Data
Science; Security. Industry experience is an asset, as well as research
activities and publications.

The successful applicant will be expected to teach several courses on the
undergraduate and graduate level. Candidates should have excellent
interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and the ability to
work within a multi-cultural team environment. The language of instruction
at GUtech is English.


2. Tasks and Responsibilities

We are looking for skillful, motivated, and devoted candidates to fulfill
the following responsibilities:
– Teaching undergraduate/graduate computer science courses
– Developing and implementing teaching and learning initiatives
– Supervising Bachelor/Master thesis projects
– Contributing to students' advising
– Contributing to high quality research activities as appropriate
– Contributing to accreditation activities
– Providing services to the department, university, and community


3. Our Offer

GUtech offers an international and dynamic environment with an extensive
research network supported by RWTH Aachen University. The employer will be
the German University of Technology in Oman.

The appointment is initially for four years and renewable, dependent on
positive performance reviews. The salary is internationally competitive.

will be arranged by the University. A preference is given to Omani
