[DMANET] CfP Session "Forecasting, prediction and optimization" @ EURO 2025, Leeds

Session "Forecasting, prediction and optimization"
34rd Conference EURO Leeds, UK, 22-25 June 2025,
The explosion of data in recent years has increased the need for
advanced forecasting techniques in various domains, such as finance,
energy, healthcare or logistics, and is leading to research on
innovative procedures. A common distinction is made between prediction,
which attempts to determine a future state given the current setting
(for example, the performance of an algorithm given a parameter
setting), and forecasting, which involves a model of past behaviour,
such as in data series analysis. Forecasting and optimization are
overlapping algorithmic domains that mutually benefit from the results
produced by each. The entire field of prescriptive analytics is about
using past performance to determine the best future course of action and
optimization modules are typically integrated into predictive analytics
systems to support effective decision making and improve business
efficiency.
However, connections are not limited to this. The ongoing explosion of
artificial intelligence has added machine learning to the toolbox of
forecasters, with machine learning largely based on optimization
components. Conversely, recent contributions have incorporated
forecasting modules into the design of optimization systems,
particularly stochastic optimization systems. The study of analogous
bidirectional contributions has already characterized recent successful
research integrating optimization and AI in general and we believe that
much can be produced by focusing on forecasting.
This session solicits contributions that present successful case studies
integrating forecasting, prediction and optimization results, as well as
new theoretical advances that utilize components rooted in these domains.
