Applications are invited for a PhD position at the Research Institute for Supply Chain Management at WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business).
The position is funded by the Joint Programming Initiative Urban Europe. The project focuses on the important area of city logistics. Specifically, the project includes research on new transportation solutions, new mechanisms for execution and control of city logistics, urban distribution of goods, freight movements and their impact on residents and the environment. This project takes an integrated supply chain point of view to urban freight transportation. The fundamental idea is to stop considering each shipment, actor and vehicle in isolation, but as components of an integrated logistics system to be optimized. The project involves key players in the urban transportation field, both from leading European universities and European-based companies, who have expertise and experience in city distribution. The position is available from June 2013, but the starting date is flexible. The initial appointment is until April 30, 2016 with the possibility of renewal.
TASKS:
+Development and implementation of different optimization approaches in the context of logistics and supply chain management
+Project support (research and administrative)
+Collaboration on research papers to be submitted to high-level international journals
+Participation in project meetings and international conferences
SALARY:
The salary is approximately 26.586 euros gross per year with benefits including health insurance and social coverage.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates should have an excellent academic degree in mathematics, computer science, business or a related area. Solid mathematical, analytical and computing skills are essential. Furthermore, programming skills and excellent English skills are required.
