[DMANET] PhD Position in Computational Social Choice and Preference Learning

Dear all,

The LAMSADE <https://www.lamsade.dauphine.fr/en.html> laboratory at
Université Paris-Dauphine <https://dauphine.psl.eu/en/> (a member of
Université PSL <https://psl.eu/en>) is offering a fully funded three-year
PhD position in the field of computational social choice and preference
learning. The PhD will be supervised by Hugo Gilbert
<https://hugogilbert.pythonanywhere.com/>, Julien Lesca
<https://sites.google.com/site/julienlesca/home>, and Stefano Moretti
<https://www.lamsade.dauphine.fr/~moretti/>.

🔍 *Research Topic*:
The research topic focuses on extending Gale-Shapley
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gale%E2%80%93Shapley_algorithm> procedures,
which are used to compute stable matchings and are widely applied in
student-university admission systems. The objective of this PhD is to
develop extensions of these algorithms when preferences (students'
preferences over universities and universities' preferences over students)
are not fully revealed upfront. These preferences may be inferred through
an interactive elicitation process (preference elicitation) and/or learned
from historical data containing preferences revealed by past applicants
(recommender systems).

*Keywords*: computational social choice, artificial intelligence,
preference elicitation, recommender systems

🎓 *Candidate Profile*:
We are looking for candidates with a Master's degree in Computer Science or
Applied Mathematics, with a specialization in artificial intelligence
and/or operations research.

📍 *Location & Funding*:
The PhD will take place at LAMSADE, the Decision Aid, Modeling, and
Analysis Laboratory at Université Paris-Dauphine. LAMSADE is one of the
leading French research laboratories in artificial intelligence, operations
research, and computational social choice, with strong expertise in
decision-making, algorithms, and preference modeling. The PhD is funded by
a doctoral fellowship from the French government. Additionally, the
selected candidate may have the opportunity to supplement their income by
teaching in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at
Université Paris-Dauphine.

📩 *How to Apply*:
To apply, please send a detailed CV and academic transcripts. You may also
provide the contact details of a referee who can attest to your academic
skills. Applications should be sent to julien.lesca@dauphine.fr.

Feel free to contact us if you need further information or have any
questions regarding the PhD topic.

Best regards
Hugo Gilbert, Julien Lesca and Stefano Moretti
