transportation tariff setting problems
at the INRIA Lille - Nord Europe
Applications are invited for a 3-year ANR-funded Ph.D. studentship to
study tariff setting problems for door-to-door freight service
network at the INRIA Lille Nord-Europe, France (
http://www.inria.fr/centre/lille). Candidates should have a strong
background in operations research, especially in combinatorial
optimization and mathematical programming (integer programming,
search tree algorithms, decomposition techniques …) and a particular
interest in transportation and logistics. Computer science skills in
algorithmic and C/C++ development are also welcome.
More precisely, the goal is to take into account the door-to-door
freight transportation in its entirety: collection phase,
transportation between the platforms, and distribution phase. The
problem combines several aspects: vehicle routing problems,
long-haul freight transportation, intermodal transportation.
The problem under investigation consists in determining prices
associated with door to door services in a competitive environment.
A bilevel approach will be considered to model the hierarchical
decision process between the service providers and the customers.
Moreover, game theoretic models could be used to understand
customers behaviors and competition between several service
providers.
Fundamental research will be a central element of the project as
there is a need to propose new and efficient methods for the problem
and bilevel programming in general. Focus will be on exact methods
based on integer programming and mathematical heuristics.
Applicative facets will also be present via DHL, which is a partner
in the ANR project RESPET (Efficient Management for Door-to-Door
Freight Service Networks).
The studentship is open to applicants of all nationalities. The
applicant should hold a master in operations research, computer
science or applied mathematics. The successful candidate will
receive a monthly salary of 1461 € / 2000 $ (after taxes).
The studentship is available from September, 2012.
Further enquiries should be addressed to : Luce Brotcorne
(Luce.Brotcorne_at_inria.fr) and Yezekael Hayel
(Yezekael.hayel_at_univ-avignon.fr )
Applicants should send by email an up-to-date CV, transcript, a
letter of motivation, a copy of their master thesis, and if possible
a letter of recommendation.
